Sina's favorites : William Fichtner

When William Fichtner grew up he decided to become a cop. Most people would believe someone who starts that would actually like to do the job - not William. He went straight to acting when he was done and from that on he did movie-cops! Good ones, bad ones, alien ones, Fichtner did them all! William Fichtner is a totally underrated great actor. If I'd do a cop movie I certainly would hire him to do his part. Nah, that's not sarcasm, it's a fact! He is just best in that.

But don't you worry if you don't really can associate any movies with his name, he is more the "Hey look, it's that guy again!"-type. Surely everyone's seen Fichtner's face in some movie yet and that's what really counts. Maybe most people nowadays know him from "Prison break" (Which I personally never watched because I am just not interested in mainstream series productions) or "Invasion", maybe even "Strange days" but Fichtner has been in lotsa productions since '89 and actually is a well known face in the film industries. We'd surely also like to see him in some nice roles. What about ... I don't know ... action superhero rescueing the world? ... or whatever. Just nicer parts than creepy cops because actually Fichtner is told to be a pretty nice guy in real life. Who knows, maybe one day a mystery series is produced that features superheroes ... oh wait ... too late for that.

Hey, this is NOT badly meant sarcasm, I really love this actor! Go watch his movies! Hurry!

(Fanvid made by "Janul2" - taken from Youtube)

My personal Top 5 roles:

  • Invasion (22 eps) - Sheriff Underlay (Sheriff but hey we call it - Cop)
  • Strange days - Engelman (Cop)
  • Ultraviolet - Garth (No Cop - sorry for that)
  • Armageddon - Colonel William Sharp (Let's call it - Cop)
  • Crash - Flanagan ( Don't remember but still I guess ... (insert fitting note))
Editor's note:

Dear Mr. Fichtner,

we hope you might be able to take some sarcasm because still to confess I am your biggest fan alive. And I am also half German - see, we got some stuff in common. Nah really, we love your movies! Keep up the great work!

Sina's favorites : Dmitry Chepovetsky

Dmitry Chepovetsky made his way up through TV productions. Small parts at "The X-files", "Stargate SG-1" and "Higher Grounds" made him a well known face on TV over the years. But wait, no it didn't really make him famous. If I'd have written this article before '05 everyone would have looked at me in a strange way and said "Come on, admit it - it's just sympathy you write that for". But in '04-'05 the awardwinning series "ReGenesis" started up in Canada and over night the world (Canada in this case) knew Dmitry Chepovetsky as Bob Melnikov. And only as him. In the 4 years since the series started up Dmitry stopped doing other productions and just wrote a bit on his stage plays he realized after the series was finished. Since then I consider Mr. Chepovetsky one of the best actors I've seen so far! And now that ReGenesis is over I also miss Bob a bit ...

So here we got a very likeable actor, quite young, although no source on the net can tell us how young exactly, of who I especially would like to see much more - at the best as Bob - please.

My personal Top 5 roles:

  • Regenesis (49 episodes) - Robert Melnikov
  • Murdoch Mysteries (s01ep01) - Nikola Tesla
  • The X-files (3 episodes)
  • Man of the year
  • Chain of fools
Editor's note:

Dear Mr. Chepovetsky,

we are kinda worried that you are just a realistic animation like some other actors nobody ever met before. Why ... well mostly because you don't have a date of birth on the internet! But one way or the other we are just big fans of ya, me especially and kinda jealous for that you are an acting genius! We'd reeeeeally like to see more good work of you so probably you can lay your stage career on a rest and do some more series - or do your stage acting in a theatre near us ... the middle between me and the other editor would be the mediterrean sea so probably ... italy? No, please dont take this serious ;) Keep up the great work!

Regenesis - The future today

Well well, to cut a long story short: "Regenesis" is first of all the first TV series on the subject of future technology and chemistry, microbiology and genetics.

Second "Regenesis" also used the latest online medias to create a story far above the series story. Everyone who watched the series from the first episode on could change the online game to get behind the secrets of the series. Some facts are left open and the tv-creators for that purpose created the whole company virtual and you can track down clues all through the internet to solve the mysteries behind the secrets of the employees. There is a story created that mixes up with the real science field so you can be an active part of the series story.

Now for the story: The scientists at the "NorBAC" laboratories handle the most agressive viruses and epedemics, genetic questions and micro-dangers from all across Canada and the USA. They gotta deal with the really smallest problems in the most extensive dimensions. They even dig out the Spanish flu from 1918 to find a final cure and also handle HIV and lepra. To cut it short they are the specialists in any case of dangerous bacteries and cellmutations.

In their first cases they for example gotta find the reason why people all across the country die when they all had contact and why the carrier who spreads the disease all along the way doesnt die, too. It turns out that a baby and his mother were infected on purpose and are resistent against the virus they carry while everyone around dies within hours. While they still try to get rid of the virus a boy comes out of nowhere and tells Dr. David Sandström (Peter Outerbridge) he was a clone born in 1990 when cloning of animals didnt even work stable.

Every character in the series has its own problems and secrets and that is what keeps the thing alive. Basically it also helps when you dont have a clue about genetics and microbiology (like me) because the content of the series is then quiet new to you and you will say out loud from time to time (like me) "Oh wow, that kinda stuff is possible?". Its not like for example Dr.House where you cant really follow the ways the crew thinks anyway and just take the diseases as facts. Here you get to know the way everything works in detail and that kinda scares you after a while.

Great series, go watch it!

Writer Michael Crichton is dead - Rest in peace

I just read it so I gotta share it: Michael Crichton died yesterday quite surprisingly from cancer.

Well, what can I say. Michael Crichton was definitly my favorite author and also the writer of some really great movies. He probably was THE best author in science novels of our time and we surely will miss his books.

My favorites in novels were "Prey", "Next", "Congo" and of course the Jurassic Park early works. In movies I'd say his best one was "Westworld" and "Twister" although the "Jurassic Park" movies were really nice shot (I bet part 4 wont be able to catch up) but they couldnt hold the level of the books.

So well, here goes one of the really great ones, leaves us here at JebbyMovies kinda sad.

Featured shortfilm: Crooked Rot

Now we had some "cute" and "funny" shortfilms but nothing shocking yet. That's going to change because this month you really need some nerves to watch our shortfilm to the end. Actually "Crooked rot" is a stopmotion graphicsproject but for real: You better dont watch it if nightmares comes to you easylie!

My own private Idaho - The road that never ends

"My own private Idaho" is a movie that takes some interpretation instead of a straight review so well let me tell you the story from my point of view:

There is this guy, Mike, with his best friend Scott. They both work in street-prostitution even though only one would have to. Scott actually comes from a rich family and could live a better life if he wouldn't stick to Mike who on the other hand is kinda secretly in love with his best friend - we just dont find out if these boys are actually gay. They sell themselfs to everyone, rich guys, bored housewifes and perverts, everyone who would stop his car.

Mike suffers from narcolepsy and everytime something gets too exiting or nervous he just falls asleep and his friend has to carry him around. Mike decides to find his mother he always dreams of but who left a long time ago. He gets on the track to follow her through states and even countries, in the end left behind alone when Scott at his 21st birthday decides to get back to his safe and rich life instead of the streetlife he lived for a few years.

"My own private Idaho" is a movie to philosophize about, watch it a few times and you still do understand some more about it. In time I realized that it actually is shot like a stageplay, the scenes are a bit too surreal from time to time and Gus Van Sant worked with alot of movie-uncommon aspects.

The cast is great. We got Keanu Reeves and River Phoenix as maincharacters and Udo Kier, James Russo and William Richert next to them. This probably is one of the 2, 3 movies I find Keanu Reeves good acting in. He usually gives a movie that "dumb"-feeling, at least thats my point of view, for example as Johnny Mnemonic. But yeah in this one right here he did some very good acting!

And although the movie was shot in '91 you may get the feeling you are looking on a very latest piece of movie history. I totally recommend you to watch it!
